Welcoming you back

Over the past few weeks during lock down we have been providing essential and emergency care but as we are moving into the next phase of the pandemic we are delighted to announce that we are able to extend our eye care services.

Our priority is the safety of our patients and our team and we will continue to follow advice to avoid further spread of this virus. So, we are going to take things gently at first.

We are following the guidance of The British College of Optometrists which advises Optometrists to delay seeing low risk patients who are symptom free and happy with their current visual correction until the UK has reached a point of low community transmission. So, we will be asking anyone awaiting a routine appointment to be patient for just a little longer while we prioritise those people most in need.

Therefore, if you have noticed any changes to your vision, have any concerns about your eye health or have broken your spectacles and don't have an up to date spare pair, we can help you now.

As non-essential retail outlets are open, you are now welcome to come and choose new spectacles and sunglasses if you are happy with your current prescription. This will be by appointment only for the time being.

We’re here for you, but we have to do things a little differently.

As always, we want to reassure you that you will be in safe hands when you come to visit us and we have changed the way we do things in order to take the very best care of you. Our practice is spacious and allows us to safely comply with social distancing but we will be operating an appointment only system for the near future.

Please take the time to read about the changes we have made before you visit.

Changes we have made in the practice

We have fully complied with Public Health and the College of Optometrists guidance on social distancing, adapting our practice, observing hygiene control measures and wearing PPE to ensure our practice is safe for you to visit.

Arranging an appointment

Please call us before you visit to make an appointment for any reason. If you arrive without prior booking, we will try to see you, but we may have to ask you to call back if the practice is busy.

When you contact us to book an appointment, we will ask you a few questions to see if we can offer you eye care advice over the phone in the first instance.

Online / Telephone Consultations. We may invite you to a telephone consultation before your appointment to enable us to clearly determine your needs and reduce the amount of time that you have to spend in the practice.

When you arrive, we will ask you to …

Ring the bell and we will let you in. Our door will be locked when you arrive. Rest assured we will be open, but we want to control the flow and number of people in the practice at any one time.

Use the hand sanitiser as you enter our practice. We will provide hand sanitiser for you to use throughout the practice. Please don’t wear gloves in the practice.

Allow us to take your temperature if you are attending for an appointment where we need to get close to you. We need to reduce the risk of people bringing the virus into the building so we will use a non-contact thermometer
as you arrive and if your temperature is high, advise you to seek medical advice and return once it is normal. Our staff all check their temperature each day on arrival

Answer a few general health questions to confirm you have not got any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms.

Come on your own. We have to keep the number of people in the building to a safe minimum, so we ask you to come alone, unless it is not possible for you to do so. If you do need someone to accompany you, don’t worry, but please let us know when you book.

Come to us before you do any shopping. Fewer bags make it easier for us to keep the practice clean and safe.

Wear a mask for the parts of the visit where we need to be closer than 2m. If you don’t have one of your own, we will be happy to provide one for you

Maintain a safe separation from everyone wherever possible. We are so lucky that we have such a spacious practice but we will still limit the number of people in the practice to ensure that you are never crowded. We will all be observing social distancing as we move around the practice.

In the Consulting Room

You will be able to wash or sanitise your hands again on entering the consulting room.

Contact time will be reduced. As part of your examination we will have to be quite close for short periods of time, and we will minimise the risks inherent in this by keeping periods of closer contact to an absolute minimum.

We will use the latest technology. We will be using new technology to examine the inside of your eyes in minute detail, so we won’t have to get as close to you as we used to.

No more “puff of air” tests! Many of you will be delighted to know that we will not be using the "puff of air" test to check your eye pressure. We have a new method which does not cause aerosol droplets to be produced.

When choosing frames

Every frame on display will be sanitised before you try them on. We have invested in the latest UVC sanitiser.

Please enjoy browsing and trying on frames and once you have tried on frames, we will ask you to place them in a tray to be made safe for the next person.

Help us to keep each other safe by observing social distancing as we move around the practice.

Pay with a card or by bank transfer whenever possible or why not take advantage of our interest free credit payment scheme.

The practice will look a little different, we have installed screens, moved some furniture around and you may have to wait a little longer for an appointment. But when you do visit we want you to relax and enjoy the experience, knowing that you are in safe hands and the same smiling faces are still there, although some may be temporarily hidden behind a mask!
